Efter bara någon timma från att jag hade skicka mitt mail till SL där jag frågade när SL skulle ta tag i den trådlösa framtiden fick jag detta svar tillbaka:

Dina synpunkter har jag rapporterat till våra ansvariga för kännedom.

Det kommer under februari-mars genomföras en test med trådlöst nätverk på ett par bussar på linje 676. Håll utkik på sl.se!

 Bra Jobbat SL, nu höjdes ni i mina ögon även fast jag hade hoppats på att försöket skulle gälla tunnelbanan.

 

Lägg till ditt trådlösa nätverk hos Skyhookwireless

För er som kanske såg eller har hört om Apples Keynote Address vet att Apple tillsammans med företaget Skyhookwireless gjort det möjligt att med trådlösa nätverk triangulerar din position. Precis som en GPS men utan GPS. Så hjälp till att göra Sverige lite mer trådlöst. Det tar endast några få minuter.

1. Find your location as latitude, longitude.
First we need to determine the location of the AP. Go to Google Maps
(http://maps.google.com) and find the location of your access point on the map. Center the map (double-click on it) on the location and then enter the following into your Address Bar:

This will open a prompt giving you the latitude,longitude of the center of the map. Copy and paste that into an email. If you are having problems there is a little more detailed tutorial here.

2. Find the MAC Address of your wireless access point
Next we need to get the MAC Address of your AP. This can be tricky, so its best to use software to find it. We recommend NetStumbler and iStumbler on Windows and Mac respectively. You can download the programs at the following links:

Windows: http://www.netstumbler.com/
Mac: http://istumbler.net/

Find your AP in the list and the associated MAC address for it. Now paste the MAC address in the email.

Now you should have a MAC address, latitude and longitude. Its good to recheck the location by pasting the latitude, longitude back into Google Maps to make sure its the right location. Once you verify it, send us the information and we’ll add them to the database. It may take up to a week before the AP is available when using your iPhone or iPod touch. If it after a few weeks you are still having problems, let us know.

Ett steg närmare WIFI i tunnelbanan

I takt med att framtiden blir mer och mer trådlös tycker jag och många andra att det är dags för SL och ta sitt ansvar och sätta upp ett trådlöst nätverk i tunnelbanan. Nu har jag mailat till SLs ”tipstjänst” och tipsat (läs krävt) dem om att de kanske skulle sätta upp ett trådlöst nätverk för att göra det möjligt för resenärerna att surfa och vara mer produktiva under resan. Så vill du också hjälpa till att göra Sverige lite mer trådlöst. Skicka då ett mail och tipsa SL om att det ska sätta upp ett trådlöst nätverk i tunnelbanan, för i och med apparater som iPod Touch och iPhone kommer behovet efter trådlösa nätverk bara bli större och större.
